California Supports Farmworkers in Partnership with La Cooperativa Campesino de California

The Employment Development Department (EDD) announced today it has awarded $100,000 to La Cooperativa Campesino de California, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping California’s farmworkers achieve lasting prosperity and self-sufficiency through education, training, job placement, and other supportive services. La Cooperativa will use the grant funds to develop and conduct radio talk shows to inform migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families of various programs, benefits, and services offered through EDD and its community partners.

California Gained 21,100 Nonfarm Payroll Jobs in July 2024

California’s employers added 21,100 nonfarm payroll jobs in July 2024 as the unemployment rate remained at 5.2 percent for the third consecutive month according to data released by the Employment Development Department (EDD). July’s job gain follows a revised job gain of 20,800 for June 2024.

Today, the Employment Development Department (EDD) held a resource fair on the Capitol steps to celebrate 20 years of California’s first-in-the-nation Paid Family Leave (PFL) program. PFL has delivered nearly $16 billion in aid to support more than 4.3 million workers over the past two decades when they needed to take time off work at critical family moments. Such occurrences include bonding with a new child, caring for ill family members, and helping family members during their military deployment.

Direct Deposit is Now Available for Unemployment, Disability, and Paid Family Leave Benefit Payments

Californians receiving unemployment, disability, or Paid Family Leave benefit payments can now enroll in direct deposit – a safe, fast, and convenient way for both existing and new claimants to receive payments automatically into a personal bank account. In addition to prepaid debit card or mailed checks, benefit program customers can choose the payment option that best meets their individual needs.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) announced today it has awarded $962,701.50 to Jobs for the Future (JFF), an organization dedicated to providing guidance and support by helping farmworkers secure stable employment across diverse industries. JFF will use the grant funds to provide ongoing coaching, consultation, and personalized support to 12 organizations who received a total of $9 million in February 2024 through the Farmworkers Advancement Program grant opportunity.

The latest round of text-message schemes called “smishing” tries to trick people into clicking a link in a text to supposedly reactivate their account. The message proclaims such an action is necessary as part of EDD’s transition from Bank of America to Money Network and this is not true.
