The California Employment Development Department (EDD) announced today it has awarded over $760,000 to the California Labor Federation (CLF) to conduct employment services outreach to workers dislocated by the closure of Yellow Freight Corporation in multiple locations across California. CLF will use these funds to provide guidance and information on available job-related assistance and services to more than 2,229 dislocated workers represented by 19 California Teamster Locals.

The Workforce Development Board of Ventura County will use these funds to identify employment service needs for more than 90 of the facility’s employees, as well as the needs of surrounding businesses.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) announced today it has awarded more than $648,000 for the Supply Chain and Worker Readiness Program (the Program), an integral part of Humboldt County’s groundbreaking offshore wind energy project. The Program is designed to facilitate workforce development efforts over the entire offshore wind project lifecycle and will utilize funds for research, community preparation, and workforce partner development. The funding will also be applied towards the education and capacity building of local businesses to meet Humboldt County’s long-term workforce needs while this new industry is established.

Hoopa Valley Tribe workers whose employment or self-employment was impacted by severe winter storms and mudslides in the Humboldt area between February 14 and March 5, 2023, are now able to apply for federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) benefits. The new DUA availability follows an amendment in July to the presidential major disaster declaration (FEMA-4707) that was initially issued on April 25, 2023.

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) announced today it has awarded more than $11 million in grants to Employment Social Enterprise (ESE) organizations that will help transition underserved job seekers into the workforce. The grants will fund technical assistance, and the design and implementation of projects that will focus on placing California’s most vulnerable populations into employment, typically in a supported employment setting, to help them earn wages, build work experience, and improve job skills.
