Step 2: Apply

Tip: Getting your information ready before you apply can make things go more smoothly.

Your disability starts on the first day you are unable to do your regular work due to your condition. But, you do not need to use that day as your claim start date.

To avoid delays, loss of benefits, or denial of your claim, you should apply:

  • No earlier than 9 days after your disability starts.
  • No later than 49 days after your disability starts.

Online

The fastest way to apply for disability benefits is through myEDD. Here’s a video if you want to learn about using myEDD.
