We are celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month this May. AAPI workers and business owners play a big part in California’s prosperity. This month and all year long, we honor the AAPI community for its many contributions and lasting influence on our state.
We’ve teamed up with the state’s workforce development system to help job seekers find good careers and help employers find qualified workers. We offer valuable, no-cost resources — including data on our state’s workforce — to support you when you need it.

“As a newly retired 23-year Navy veteran with no civilian job experience. I was daunted by the process of transitioning to a civilian career… I found a job that I love with the Veterans Service Office in Shasta County and successfully secured it. I cannot thank the EDD enough for their invaluable assistance.”
– Erika Cerantes
On EDD’s veterans resources
“The most help I feel I received was honestly the compassion and personal assistance, including job and career recommendations that Barbara Wigney graciously offered. She listened to my story and calmed my worries, then set up my file and started the EDD services and programs. She followed up with me and actually showed that she cared.”
– Ted Gillian
On changing careers with EDD support
“As someone who has never had real work experience, EDD representative Gloria Castillo’s assistance has helped me grow into someone who feels comfortable in a workplace environment… she introduced me to the WIOA/youth program and got me a job with the Hollywood WorkSource Center as customer service representative helping people to apply for jobs.”
– Samuel Rojo

The Significance of Employer Participation in the OEWS Survey
The EDD’s Labor Market Information Division (LMID) collects data on jobs and wages directly from employers through the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) Survey. The OEWS program gathers data for over 800 jobs based on industry and geographical area.
Employment and wage data gathered from the OEWS Survey helps employers, job seekers, policy makers, and educators make informed decisions:
- Employers use the data to negotiate salaries, predict future skill needs, and stay competitive in their area.
- Job seekers use the data to help choose the right education, training, and skills needed for top jobs.
- Economic developers use wage data to attract and keep businesses.
- Educators and trainers use the data to update lesson plans to better help students with the skills employers need.
When you receive the OEWS survey from EDD-LMID, we kindly ask you to participate. For any questions or more information about this program, contact the LMID at 1-800-826-4896 or LMIOccupationalSurvey@states.bls.gov.
To access data from the OEWS survey, visit Labor Market Information. Use the LMI by Subject category and select Occupations or Wages.
