Step 6: Receive Your First Payment

Español

It takes about three weeks to process a new application for unemployment benefits and issue payment to eligible workers.

Waiting Period

You must serve a one-week unpaid waiting period on your claim before getting paid. The waiting period can only be served if you certify for benefits and meet all eligibility requirements for that week. Your first certification will usually include the one-week unpaid waiting period and one week of payment if you meet eligibility requirements for both weeks. The waiting period does not change the total amount of benefits you can receive.

Payment Options

You can receive benefit payments by direct deposit, debit card, or mailed checks. Visit Benefit Payment Options for more information. We issue benefit payments to a Money Network prepaid debit card unless you select a different payment option. You can change your payment option through myEDD.

If you need help or have questions about your debit card, visit Money Network. You can also speak with a Money Network customer service representative 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:
