More Improvements for Unemployment Benefit Determinations
We’re making it easier for you, our customers, to respond to requests for eligibility information online and upload documents, instead of waiting for a phone interview or filling out paper forms.
We are required by law to determine if a person meets the legal requirements to receive benefits. The majority of benefits can be paid quickly to eligible workers. However, a small percentage of claims require our customers to provide us with more information. In the past, the only option available was a scheduled phone interview with an EDD representative. In 2023, we launched the Eligibility Questionnaire so our customers can quickly and conveniently respond to those requests online.
To date, more than 110,000 unemployment customers have taken advantage of the online system. On average, those online customers saw their eligibility issues resolved in less than six days. When compared to a phone interview process that often took many weeks, this is a significant customer experience improvement!
We just expanded the number of eligibility issues available to customers online by adding 15 more eligibility issues to our online questionnaire in the latest release.
This means you’ll have more self-serve options to quickly provide your information on issues like:
- Missing information or late certifications.
- Not completing a CalJOBS registration or uploading a resume.
- Missing a required services appointment.
- Explaining why you didn’t accept a job offer.
- Clarifying information when reporting wages like bonuses, pensions, or tips.
- And more…
This makes the process faster, simpler, and more consistent. At EDD, we’re committed to making your experience as easy as possible. To learn more about eligibility issues, visit Unemployment Determination and Eligibility.
