Honoring Workers and Building Stronger Communities

Published: October 13, 2025

Every Labor Day, we pause to honor the hard work of people across California—the grocery clerk, the teacher, the health care worker, the public safety officer, the parent who’s juggling jobs and kids. Your work matters. You keep our communities strong.

In a great state like ours with so much diversity and promise, it matters that everyone has a chance to find stable work that supports them. That’s why our theme for this year’s campaign effort that started with Labor Day and continues is Stronger Jobs, Stronger Communities. It’s more than a slogan, it’s a real promise: to help Californians get back to work, move into new careers, and build strong economic futures for themselves and their families. In partnership with the state’s workforce development system, we help job seekers find good careers and connect employers with qualified workers.

See stories like Priscilla’s, who enrolled at Future Fire Academy, graduated, and recently purchased her first home for herself and her daughter. Go Priscilla!

See her story, and other Californians’ like Shanissa, too.

“EDD workforce services was crucial in preparing me to re-enter the workforce. The workshops, mock interviews, and the assistance in revising my resume not only made me more confident in my job search, but it also gave me the tools to be more successful.”

– Shanissa A., who used our services and is now a veteran specialist

Our valuable, free resources (including data on our state’s workforce) are here to support you when you need it. This can help you find a job, perhaps one of the top five in the state without needing a college degree? We’ve got you covered.

Here are some of the ways we support you.

  • Job help and career coaching: Whether you need help writing a resume, preparing for interviews, or figuring out what skill training is right for you, we have the tools and friendly people ready to support you.
  • America’s Job Center of California (AJCC): This is where you can go in your neighborhood to get hands-on help. You can find training programs, job fairs, workshops, and in many cases, access to internet, phones, and more.
  • CalJOBS: Your online hub to search and apply for jobs, explore career paths, see which industries are growing in your region, and set up alerts so job opportunities can come to you.
  • Support beyond just finding a job: We know life isn’t just about work. It’s about getting where you need to go, taking care of family responsibilities, managing bills, and finding stability. If you need help with things like transportation, housing, or childcare to make work possible, we can help.
  • We support employers too: Strong economies need employers who can hire people with the right skills, and people who are ready for those jobs. We have training resources, recruitment assistance, hiring tools, and also data so employers know what kinds of jobs are growing in each part of the state.
