California Farmworkers Are the Heart of Our Communities

Their hard work feeds the nation and keeps our economy strong.

To recognize their contributions, we launched a campaign in honor of the Cesar Chavez holiday in late March with the theme, California Farmworkers Are the Heart of Our Communities. We honored our dedicated outreach workers who connect farmworkers with services and resources where they work and live. This includes job opportunities, labor rights, and supportive services available through the America’s Job Center of California offices and our partners.

"The best part of being an outreach worker is the gratitude that farmworkers give me when presenting them with all the information that they otherwise would have never of known."

The campaign featured inspiring success stories, program highlights, and updates on how EDD supports farmworkers through the Migrant Seasonal Farmworkers Outreach Program.

Cesar Chavez’s Legacy

Born on March 31, 1927, civil rights leader Cesar Chavez fought for fair wages and better working conditions. His legacy continues to inspire action and advocacy for farmworker rights.

California’s Agricultural Impact

  • A $49 billion industry generating $100+ billion in economic activity.
  • Produces over a third of the nation’s vegetables and three-quarters of its fruits and nuts.
  • Supported by over 833,000 crop workers.

At EDD, we’re proud to support and celebrate the farmworkers who make California the agricultural leader it is today.
