WOTC Improves Your Chances of Being Hired
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) can help you get a job
If you are in one of the "target groups" listed below, an employer who hires you could receive a federal tax credit of up to $9,600. This tax credit may encourage them to hire you. To qualify, both you and the employer must complete the required forms before you are offered the job. Be sure to let the employer know when you apply or during the interview.
These are the target groups of job seekers that can help an employer qualify for the WOTC:
- People receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).
- Qualified veterans who are receiving Food Stamps or have a service-connected disability and:
- Were discharged or released from active duty within
- the last year, OR
- Were unemployed for six months or more in the year before being hired.
- Ex-felons hired within one year of being convicted or released from prison.
- Designated Community Residents who are between 18 and 39 years old and live in an Empowerment Zone or Rural Renewal County.
- People referred through vocational rehabilitation programs, including those with a work plan from an Employment Network.
- Qualified summer youth (ages 16-17) who live in an Empowerment Zone.
- Qualified Food Stamp recipients who are between 18 and 39 years old.
- People receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
- Long-term family assistance recipients.
- Qualified long-term unemployed individuals.
