State Employee Automated Phone Service

Claims and General Information

If you are a California State employee, follow these steps to help you use the State Disability Insurance (SDI) automated phone service.

Call the toll-free number at 1-866-758-9768.

You can call the automated phone service Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Note: Weekdays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Pacific time) are when we receive our highest call volume. For faster service, call outside of these hours.

This number is for state employees and their friends and family only.

If you are a state employee, you must also be a member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS), a State Officer, or the California State Legislature. EDD employee relatives or friends do not need to be affiliated with any state entity or organization.

When You Call

You may hear special instructions or announcements before the main menu. A short description of menu items will be provided.

If you know your selection, you can enter it at any time. While using the automated phone service you can:

  • Press 9 to return to a previous menu.
  • Press the star key (*) to repeat information.

Before you call, review this information to choose the right option for you. The Main Menu options are:

Use this option if you are a state employee and an active member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), a state officer, or an employee of the California Legislature, and your pay stub does not show a CA SDI contribution. For:

  • Payments of a claim, press 1.
  • Benefit information, press 2.
  • Eligibility, press 3.
  • Information on how to file NDI claims, press 4.
  • Information about the waiting period, press 5.
  • Information about a notice of determination and appeals, press 6.
  • Continued claim information, press 7.

Use this option if you are a member of the State Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000, represented by bargaining units 1, 3, 4, 11, 14, 15, 17, 20, or 21. For:

  • Information about your benefit payment or to request claim forms, press 1.
  • The SDI Online Help Desk (registration, password or security questions, and other system-related questions for online claim filing), press 2.
  • Information about Disability Insurance for state employees, press 3.
    • State Disability Insurance participation, press 1.
    • Health benefits while receiving SDI benefits, press 2.
    • Leave credits while receiving SDI benefits, press 3.
    • If you have been promoted or moved into a non-SEIU bargaining unit, press 4.
    • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), press 5.
    • Tax treatment of SDI, press 6.

Use this option if you are a member of the State Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000, represented by bargaining units 1, 3, 4, 11, 14, 15, 17, 20, or 21. For:

  • Information about your benefit payment or to request claim forms, press 1.
  • The SDI Online Help Desk (registration, password or security questions, and other system-related questions for online claim filing), press 2.
  • Information about Paid Family Leave for state employees, press 3.
    • State Disability Insurance participation, press 1.
    • Health benefits while receiving SDI benefits, press 2.
    • Leave credits while receiving SDI benefits, press 3.
    • If you have been promoted or moved into a non-SEIU bargaining unit, press 4.
    • Information about Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), press 5.
