Benefit Year End

Your benefit year ends 12 months after the start date of your claim. You cannot be paid for weeks that fall outside of your benefit year, even if there is a remaining balance on your claim.

To find the end date for your benefit year, log in to UI Online and view your Claim Summary.

  • If your benefit year has not ended, continue to certify for benefits. If it has been more than 30 days since you last certified for benefits and your benefit year has not ended, you may need to reopen your claim
  • If your claim has ended, you can apply for a new claim if you earned enough wages in the last 18 months and are still unemployed or working part-time. Apply online, and we will notify you when your new claim is processed. This usually takes two to three weeks.

You don’t need to reapply if you didn’t earn enough wages in the last 18 months to meet the requirements for a new claim.

For more information, refer to your Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award (DE 429Z).

Maximum Benefit Amount

Your claim balance is also known as the maximum benefit amount. This is the maximum amount you could be paid for your claim. You may not be eligible to collect the full amount. For example, if you don’t certify for certain weeks, you are not paid for those weeks, but they would still be included in your claim balance. Also, if you receive reduced weekly benefits because you are working or receiving pay, there could be a balance left when your claim ends.

You cannot be paid for weeks of unemployment after your claim ends.

Next Steps

If you reopened your claim or reapplied for benefits, you will receive an email and a text message once your claim is processed. This usually takes two to three weeks.
