February is Black History Month, and in California it’s a great time to honor the lasting impact of Black and African American workers and entrepreneurs across California. Their work, creativity, and leadership help strengthen families, communities, and our state’s economy. This month, we celebrate that legacy and look ahead to the future we are building together.
California is home to more than 185,000 Black-owned businesses, which support local jobs, services, and economic growth. And this impact is huge: these businesses contribute nearly $193 billion to California’s economy and support millions of jobs statewide. That’s not just success. That’s a powerful legacy shaping a stronger future for California.
At EDD, we know that when a Black owned business grows, a neighborhood grows with it. That’s why we are committed to providing tips, tools, and resources to help businesses thrive.
Whether you’re looking for a job, growing a small business, or planning your next step, support matters. EDD offers programs and resources that connect Californians to job training, career services, hiring support, and resources for employers and entrepreneurs.
Earl Graves, founder of Black Enterprise Magazine once said, “To have a successful career, you have to approach it as an entrepreneur, even if you are working for someone else. Your career is your own private business.”
If you’re navigating change or looking to grow, you don’t have to do it alone. We bring together tools and services in one place. That way you can find help that fits your goals, right when you need it. From workforce programs to business support, these resources are designed to help Californians move forward with confidence.
This Black History Month and beyond, we recognize the lasting impact and future leadership of Black and African American workers and entrepreneurs across California.
