Unemployment Customers Can Chat Online with a Live Agent

We know that reaching out for help with your unemployment benefits by phone isn’t always convenient. That’s why customers can now chat with an agent online! A faster, easier way to get support through our online myEDD service.

How It Works

You can chat with an agent weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  1. Log in to myEDD.
  2. Select UI Online.
  3. Select the Help button at the bottom of the page. Clicking this button opens our virtual assistant, which can answer common questions like “How do I apply?” or “Am I eligible?”

If you still need help, you’ll have the option to connect with a live agent. This new process makes sure your identity is verified, and your account details are shared with the agent. That way you get personalized and accurate support.

This new chat option is designed to:

  • Make it easier to get answers without having to call us.
  • Provide support in your language.
  • Give you consistent, reliable service.
  • Offer a chance to share feedback through a short post-chat survey, so we can keep improving!

What You Can Expect

  • Estimated wait times: If an agent is available, you’ll see how long you may need to wait. This helps keep you informed on when you can expect online support.
  • Clear messages if chat isn’t available: If an agent isn’t available or you’re trying outside of our available chat hours, the system will clearly let you know and give you other ways to contact us.
  • Multiple languages: Before you chat, select your language! Chatting with a live agent uses real-time translation, so you can get help in your preferred language including Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Armenian.

  • Save your chat: At the end of your session, you can choose to save a redacted transcript of the conversation to your account for easy reference later.

What’s Next

We are working hard to continue monitoring how this feature is performing and making improvements, so the experience is as smooth and helpful as possible. Nearly 6,000 unemployment customers per month are taking advantage of chatting with a live agent online.

Our goal is simple: to make getting help with your benefits less stressful, more inclusive, and more supportive.
