From Service to Success: U.S. Air Force Veteran Begins Journey Toward a Lasting Career
US Air Force veteran Anastasia Meade visited the Santa Maria America’s Job Center of California in June of 2025 seeking employment support to reenter the workforce after several years away. As a veteran with multiple barriers to employment, she was referred to Employment Development Department’s (EDD) Disabled Veterans Outreach Program, where she met Ronald Jacobs, a specialist within the program. Jones immediately tailored an individualized employment plan to help her obtain a part-time job as soon as possible while also working on long-term stability via continued education and training.
The services provided, including resume editing, labor market information, job referrals, and interview preparation, helped Anastasia when she was connected to support programs including CalWORKs, CalFresh, and helped her explore the various resources that established a solid foundation to pursue her professional goals.
Jacobs was able to help Anastasia secure a general clerk position with Vandenberg Space Force Base which aligned with her strengths in administrative and clerical roles. This position offered stable income and benefits while she pursued her educational plans.
“Every fellow brother or sister veteran carries a story of service and sacrifice, and my pledge is to help them discover a new purpose beyond the camouflage uniform. When a veteran walks through our doors, they’re not just looking for a job — they’re searching for direction, dignity, and a fresh start. Witnessing Anastasia reclaim her confidence and step back into the workforce after some significant time away reminds me why I do this work, which is my purpose. It’s an honor to stand beside them on that journey, to remind them that their service still matters and that their future is still bright. It’s about restoring hope and aspiration — one fellow veteran at a time.”

Anastasia is grateful for the support she received through Jacobs, and her success illustrates the life-changing impact veteran-focused employment services can have on a transitioning veteran. With coordinated guidance, access to vital resources, and personalized case management, veterans can take significant steps toward long-term career development.
