DOL Free Artificial Intelligence Literacy Course

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is pleased to announce the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) new initiative, “Make America AI Ready.” This free, text-based course introduces basic artificial intelligence (AI) concepts in an easy and accessible format. Individuals can enroll by texting “READY” to 20202. Phone numbers collected during enrollment are used only to deliver the course and are not shared or sold.

The seven‑day course delivers short daily lessons by text message, requiring about 10 minutes a day. It was developed through a partnership between DOL and Arist to ensure accessibility for individuals who may not have computers or high‑speed internet.

Topics include the following:

• What AI is and what it can and cannot do
• How AI can support everyday work
• How to give effective instructions to AI tools
• How to evaluate AI‑generated information
• How to use AI responsibly and securely

Participants also receive optional resources to continue building AI skills or explore AI‑related career paths.
