SACRAMENTO – The California Employment Development Department (EDD) announced today that it has awarded $1 million to Corporation for a Skilled Workforce (CSW) to make improvements to the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program administered in California. This funding will help provide more effective reemployment strategies for claimants most likely to exhaust Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits, and to support improved efficiency and effectiveness in California’s workforce system.

“The RESEA program is key in helping California jobseekers return to work with the skills necessary to succeed in the workforce,” said EDD Director Nancy Farias. “This grant will help us evaluate the existing program and identify areas for improvement, which will allow us to provide more targeted reemployment services and connect more Californians to the workforce system.”

The RESEA program is a federal grant program for states to assist individuals receiving UI benefits. The program is intended to reduce the UI duration through improved employment outcomes. Funds are used to connect participants with in-person assessments and evidence-based reemployment services through American Job Centers.

CSW will provide a variety of technical assistance to the RESEA program by conducting research and analysis, facilitating collaboration, and supporting real-time assessment and improvement of the RESEA program. CSW will collaborate with the EDD, stakeholders, and the RESEA program evaluator to provide data-driven recommendations, support strategic planning, and promote adaptive planning for future economic changes.

Funding for this grant was provided through the RESEA Grant and administered by the EDD, in coordination with the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency.

The organization was selected through the RESEA Collaborative Redesign Technical Assistance Solicitation for Proposals after a competitive application and evaluation process.
