California Labor Market Data Release Moved to January 9

SACRAMENTO — The Employment Development Department (EDD) is updating the previously announced release date for available state unemployment and employment data for October and November 2025.

While the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released high-level unemployment and employment figures for states on January 7, 2026, EDD requires additional time to produce the full set of California’s local labor market data reports. As a result, EDD will release the available state and local data on Friday, January 9, instead of the tentatively scheduled January 7 release date.

The BLS is working to catch up on delays in labor data gathering and analysis caused by the recent federal government shutdown, which in turn has delayed states accessing the necessary data to complete state-level data reports. This updated release schedule ensures the accurate and complete release of state-level and localized unemployment and job numbers.
