Payroll Tax Deposit Payments: Cash, Credit Card and Debit Card

You can make your payroll tax deposit payments with cash, credit or debit card.

Use PayNearMe for Cash Payments

Use PayNearMe to make your Payroll Tax Deposit (DE 88) cash payments electronically at participating locations. This option fulfills the E-file and E-pay Mandate for Employers.

Follow These Steps

  1. Visit PayNearMe and enter the EDD employment account number, phone number, business name and contact name to create a personal barcode.
  2. Print your barcode or send it to your mobile device. This barcode can be re-used for future payments.
  3. Visit PayNearMe location and enter your location and Employment Development Department as the Biller name to search for the nearest PayNearMe retail location.
  4. Visit the nearest PayNearMe retail location and give your barcode to the cashier.
  5. Make your cash payment and keep the receipt for your records. (Your payment is effective on the date the payment was made.)
  6. After making your payment, call the e-Pay Group at 1-916-654-9130 and provide your payment information, or submit a completed PayNearMe Cash Payroll Tax Remittance Detail (DE 32) (PDF):

For questions about your payment, call the e-Pay Group at 1-916-654-9130 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Pacific time, except on state holidays.

Additional Information

PayNearMe accepts up to $2,500 in a 24-hour period ($1,000 per transaction limit) and $10,000 per month. PayNearMe also charges a convenience fee of $5.99 per transaction. The convenience fee is not paid to the EDD.

Note: It may take up to five business days for your payment to post to your employer payroll tax account.

Avoid Late Penalties and Interest

Make sure your payroll tax deposit payment is on time to avoid late penalties and interest. Refer to Required Filings and Due Dates for the schedule.

You can make credit and debit card payments with ACI Payments Inc., online or by phone.

Pay by Credit and Debit Card Online

To make an online payment:

  1. Visit ACI Payments, Inc.
  2. Select State Payments.
  3. Enter jurisdiction code 1501 and select Make a Payment.
  4. Select Payment Type.
  5. Choose Make a Payment and complete the required fields.

Pay with Credit Card by Phone

To make a credit card payment by phone:

  1. Call toll-free 1-800-272-9829.
  2. Choose Option 2.
  3. Enter jurisdiction code 1501 and follow the recorded instructions.
