The Employment Development Department (EDD), in coordination with the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), announces the availability of up to $4 million from the State of California General Fund for the Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Program Year (PY) 2022-2023 Solicitation for Proposal (SFP).

The goal of this grant is to support the transition of graduates from the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Corp and other training programs, in addition to recruiting individuals from underrepresented groups, into more advanced occupations, through the use of apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships. The grant supports the preliminary research and planning, development, and the implementation of training programs developed in coordination with and approved by the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (Cal-JAC).

Eligible applicants are public and private non-profit organizations, Local Workforce Development Areas, education and training providers, tribal organizations, faith-based organizations, and community-based organizations. Individuals are not eligible to apply.

Proposals must be received by 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023. An informational webinar will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required for all participants by Monday, June 19, 2023. The EDD encourages applicants to submit a Notice of Intent to apply by June 30, 2023, at noon to WSBSFP1@edd.ca.gov.
