California Volunteers Offers Work Experience and Paid Service Roles

Workforce Services Information Notice
WSIN26-09

Issued: August 13, 2026

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is pleased to partner with California Volunteers (CV) to offer volunteer and paid service opportunities through EDD programs and partners. California Volunteers is a state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering, and civic action to tackle our state’s most pressing challenges. Workforce partners are encouraged to incorporate California Volunteers opportunities into participant services, including during WIOA assessments, Individual Employment Plan development, career planning, and referrals to volunteer or paid service opportunities that support participants' employment goals.

Utilizing California Volunteers resources gives workforce partners several ways to help participants achieve their employment goals while giving back to their communities:

  • Provide hands-on work experience.
  • Offer access to paid service roles.
  • Support skill development and skill retention.
  • Connect participants with mentors, networks, and long-term job opportunities.
  • Introduce new career pathways in public service, climate action, education, health, community resilience, and more.

Paid Service opportunities include positions with California Climate Action Corps, Youth Service Corps, and AmeriCorps California. Check out the California Service Corp Programs fact sheet to learn more.

To help participants explore volunteer opportunities, use the CV Volunteer Web Guide.
