When Californians need help getting back to work, finding a better job or building new skills, EDD offers more than benefits. We connect people with the right resources, opportunities and support for where they are in their careers. Whether that means finding a job, preparing for an interview, learning a new skill or meeting an employer face to face, EDD can help.
That support is available in ways that work for different people, including job training, workshops, career services and in-person job fairs. Through EDD and its workforce partners, Californians can find help online, in their communities and in person.
Earlier this year, EDD partnered with San Joaquin County Worknet, an America’s Job Center of California location in Stockton, to host a job fair. The event gave job seekers an opportunity to meet local employers, learn about open positions and connect with community resources all in one place.
For Angie Valenzuela, a recruiter for The Exchange, that face-to-face connection matters.
“You get to share your experience, learn more about companies, and ask questions you wouldn’t find answers to online.”
Keith Taylor attended the job fair because he knew it could open doors beyond simply searching for jobs online.
“If you’re looking for a new job or want to connect with community resources, this is the place to be.”
And that is what makes these events different from simply finding a job posting. EDD job fairs bring employers, job seekers and workforce resources together in one place. EDD representatives can help participants prepare for their next step, connect them with services and make it easier to find the support that fits their needs.
“It’s not just a career fair; there are resources here,” said EDD representative Brad Lavin.
Amanda Navichoque, also with EDD, sees these events as an opportunity for job seekers to put their best foot forward.
“These events let job seekers prepare and present their best selves, all in one place.”
For Shaun Nash, who was recently unemployed, the event represented a chance to start fresh.
“It’s something new — meeting people. I’m basically rebranding myself.”
Opportunities Give Californians Options
Finding the right opportunity can look different for everyone. For some, it may be a new job. For others, it may be training, career guidance, a connection to an employer or simply knowing where to turn next.
EDD’s workforce services are designed to meet Californians where they are and help them take that next step. Whether someone is looking for work today, building skills for tomorrow or exploring a new career path, EDD and its workforce partners are here to help connect them with the right opportunities and resources.
