Paid Family Leave Automated Phone Service Instructions

Agents are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on holidays. You can call either phone number below:

  • English: 1-877-238-4373
  • Spanish: 1-877-379-3819

We offer free interpretive services. To request an interpreter, say or press 3 to speak to an agent. When you reach an agent, ask for an interpreter.

Important: If we call you, your caller ID will show “Public Service PFL Office 1-877-238-4373.”

Instructions

To make a call in English or Spanish:

  1. Dial the English or Spanish number listed at the top of this page.
  2. After the greeting, you can press 1 for English or press 2 for Spanish or say “Spanish.”
  3. Listen to the instructions.
  4. In a few words, tell us how we can help you. For example, you can say:
    • "Where is my payment?"
    • "Claim status"
    • "What's my receipt number?"

For faster service, have your Claim ID and SSN/EDD Client Number (ECN) ready.

  • You can find your Claim ID on the SDI Online homepage of your myEDD account. It is also listed on the Notice of Computation (DE 429D) that we mail to you. 
  • If you do not have an SSN, or we have security concerns about your SSN, we will assign you an ECN. If you have an ECN, use it instead of an SSN.
  • Providing this information is optional. If you choose not to provide this information, you will still have the option to speak with an agent.

At any time AFTER you select an option, you may select the following:

  • To speak with a representative, say “Agent” or press 0.
  • To return to the previous menu, say “Previous Menu” or press 9.
  • To repeat these options, say “Repeat” or press the star key (*).
  • To end this call, hang up at any time.

To request an interpreter for a language other than English or Spanish:

  1. Dial the English or Spanish number listed at the top of this page
  2. After the greeting, press or say 3.
  3. Listen to the instructions.
  4. After choosing 3, you may be:
    • Connected to an agent.
    • Placed on hold until an agent is available.
    • Offered a callback.
    • Asked to take a survey.
    • Informed that no agents are available and asked to call back later or use self-help options.
  5. If agents are available, we may place you on a hold until an agent can take your call.
  6. When an agent answers, tell them what language you speak. We provide free interpretive services on request.

  • The status of your claim or benefit payment. You must have the following ready:
    • Your Claim ID
    • SSN (if you do not have an SSN but an assigned ECN, you may enter the ECN)

Say “Online” or press 2 for information on:

  • Creating an online account, say “online account” or press 1.
  • Submitting an online claim application, say “online application” or press 2.
  • Resetting your password, say “reset password” or press 3.
  • Receiving technical support, say “technical support” or press 4.

Say “Paid Family Leave” or press 3 for information on:

  • Eligibility and payments, say “eligibility” or press 1.
  • Applying for benefits, say “apply” or press 2.
    • To request an initial claim form by mail, say “claim form by mail” or press 1.
  • Filing an appeal, say “appeal” or press 3.
  • The FMLA and California Family Rights Act, say “FMLA” or press 4.
  • Requesting a copy of your payment history, say “copy of payment” or press 5.

Say “Voluntary Plans” or press 4 for information on:

  • Employer Voluntary Plan information, say “employer voluntary plans” or press 1.
  • Employee Voluntary Plan information, say “employee voluntary plans” or press 2.

If you have a voluntary plan, your pay stub or W-2 will have “VDI” contributions instead of “CA-SDI” contributions.
