How We Get the Numbers

The EDD’s Labor Market Information Division (LMID) collects data on jobs and wages directly from employers through the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) Survey. The OEWS program gathers data for 800+ jobs based on industry and geographical area.

Employment and wage data gathered from the OEWS Survey helps employers, job seekers, policy makers, and educators make informed decisions:

  • Employers: negotiate salaries, predict future skill needs, and stay competitive in their area.
  • Job seekers: help choose the right education, training, and skills needed for top jobs.
  • Economic developers: attract and keep businesses.
  • Educators and trainers: update lesson plans to better help students with the skills employers need.
