California lost 5,500 nonfarm payroll jobs in October 2024 as the unemployment rate rose slightly to 5.4 percent, up one tenth of a percentage point from September, according to data released by the Employment Development Department (EDD). October’s job loss follows a downward revised job gain of 12,700 for the previous month.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) announced today it has awarded $100,000 to La Cooperativa Campesino de California, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping California’s farmworkers achieve lasting prosperity and self-sufficiency through education, training, job placement, and other supportive services. La Cooperativa will use the grant funds to develop and conduct radio talk shows to inform migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families of various programs, benefits, and services offered through EDD and its community partners.
