Economic Impact Payment Information and Resources

Workforce Services Information Notice
WSIN20-06

Issued: July 15, 2020

In response to COVID-19, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act provided eligible individuals with an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) to households of up to $1,200 per adult and $500 per child. In most cases the EIP was provided automatically. However, some Californians (especially those who are low income and typically do not file federal income taxes) will not receive their EIP without taking additional action. As a result, the California Department of Social Services has launched an Economic Impact Payment information and Resources hub to help those individuals navigate the EIP process and inform them of upcoming deadlines.

The deadlines for obtaining the EIP are as follows:

  • July 15 – for those individuals required or choosing to submit their 2019 federal income tax returns and who do not file for an extension.
  • October 15 – for those individuals filing their 2019 federal income tax returns, who did file for an extension.
  • October 15 – for those individuals not required to file 2019 income taxes, and will therefore use the IRS Non-filer tool.

NOTE – for all individuals who have not submitted the requisite documentation by October 15, 2020, to request their EIP, they may still receive their EIP by filing their 2021 federal income tax returns, due April 15, 2021.

America's Job Center of CaliforniaSM staff are encouraged to promote the EIP information and Resources hub to help eligible individuals receive an EIP.

For questions regarding the EIP information and resources hub, please contact the CalWORKs Engagement Bureau at 1-916-654-2137.
