SIDES FAQs

The State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) is a secure and prompt way for employers and third-party administrators (TPAs) to electronically receive and respond to the EDD’s Notice of Unemployment Insurance Claim Filed (DE 1101CZ) (PDF).

You will receive this form if a new Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim is filed, or an existing UI claim is reopened.

No, but we highly recommend participating to help you control costs associated with UI claims.

There is no cost to participate in SIDES E-Response. However, there may be costs to develop and implement software that allows you to participate in SIDES Web Service. Several software providers can assist you. For more information, visit our How to Participate in SIDES Web Service page or the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) SIDES website.

Yes, you can use SIDES if you have multiple businesses. However, all of the businesses must participate in either SIDES E-Response or SIDES Web Service.

When we cannot send the Notice of Unemployment Insurance Claim Filed (DE 1101CZ or DE 1101ER) electronically, we will mail you the form instead. You must complete and mail the form within 10 days of the date listed on the notice.

Responses are stored in SIDES for 35 days. After 35 days, you will no longer be able to view your responses. We recommend that you save a copy for your records.

To use SIDES E-Response, you must be enrolled in e-Services for Business.

If you logged in to e-Services for Business for the first time, you must wait 24 hours before you can subscribe to SIDES E-Response. Visit e-Services for Business for more information.

You will receive an email notification when you have one or more requests.

To make sure emails from the EDD appear in your inbox, add SidesSupport@edd.ca.gov to your address book. This will prevent notifications from going to your junk or spam folders.

To change the email recipient, you must unsubscribe from SIDES E-Response and then resubscribe by logging into SIDES E-Response with your Employers Services Online username and password.

We recommend using a group email address to avoid this issue.

Notifications are sent to the email address that was used to subscribe to your Employer Services Online account. To make sure EDD emails appear in your inbox, add SidesSupport@edd.ca.gov to your address book. This will prevent notifications from going to your junk or spam folders.

You can use only one email address to subscribe to notifications. We recommend using a group email address so that more than one person can view your notifications.

You need to create a new subscriber. Contact our Taxpayer Assistance Center at 1-888-745-3886 and have the previous employee’s information deleted in e-Services for Business.

Once completed, you will be able to re-subscribe your business in SIDES E-Response.

  1. Log in to SIDES E-Response.
  2. Select Respond to Request(s) in the Notifications section.
  3. You will be redirected to National UI SIDES E-Response.
    1. Select Create Response to begin your response.

For a single response, the total size of all attachments is limited to 5 MB.
