On this Labor Day, as we celebrate the hard work, dedication and innovation of California’s workers, we want you to know the California Employment Development Department (EDD) is here to help you with your next career move. And now is a good time to focus on enhancing your skills!

The American labor movement is responsible for many things we take for granted—the weekend, the 40-hour work week and anti-child labor laws to name a few. I urge all Californians to take this opportunity to appreciate not only the vast contribution of labor to our economy, but also the privilege of living under a fair and well-regulated system of industrial laws.

California’s labor market conditions for workers and prospective workers are more favorable than they have been for more than a decade. This special Labor Day webpage provides valuable information for both job seekers and employers, including top in-demand jobs, videos about employment services, and inspiring stories of those who tapped into their potential to get the jobs they want.

Labor Day is a chance to celebrate what we have accomplished in the past, and what we aim to achieve in the future. Preparing our workforce is what EDD does. On behalf of everyone here at EDD, we wish you the best of success this Labor Day.

Patrick W. Henning
EDD Director
