Labor Day 2013

As we commemorate Labor Day 2013 here in California, the EDD is releasing its annual report on the status of the labor force. The Labor Day Briefing paints a positive picture of an improving economy, creating employment opportunities for job seekers throughout the state. To take advantage of emerging opportunities, the EDD is also providing an online Toolbox for Job Seekers designed to assist them in finding good jobs.

The annual Labor Day Briefing contains data reflecting 25 straight months of job growth in California – one of the top job creating states in the nation. Opportunities in the professional and business services and leisure and hospitality industries are leading the way, producing well over half of the net new jobs in the current expansion. Educational and health services and trade, transportation, and utilities have also contributed solid job gains. And the job growth was widespread across California over the last year.

The Briefing also contains a list of top jobs in the state as reflected in the high number of recent online job ads and projected job growth, and are broken down by educational requirements, and average annual wages.

EDD’s online Toolbox for Job Seekers provides a wealth of resources designed to help job seekers take full advantage of the improving economy. Assistance is also available at a local America’s Job Center of CaliforniaSM (formerly One-Stop Career Centers) to help connect employers with qualified candidates and job seekers with viable job and training opportunities.

We hope this annual Labor Day Briefing and associated resources will prove valuable to Californians as our state economy continues to rebound.
