Unemployment Insurance Information by County

The information provided in these monthly statistics are the number of claimants within a county. The monthly number of claimants is based on the number of individuals who certified for Unemployment Insurance benefits specifically for the week containing the 12th of the month. For example, the March  figures are based on the number of claimants who submitted a continued claim form to receive benefits specifically for the week beginning March 8 through March 14.

Data for the survey week is not available until approximately two months past the survey week. It includes the number of claimants in the count for the total statistics of the month for the regular Unemployment Insurance program and federal extended benefit programs. Data for claimants who live outside of California, but collect benefits, and invalid addresses in California are not included in these numbers.

The data provided in these reports are the number of initial claim counts. It includes new claims, additional claims, and transitional claims. Data includes regular Unemployment Insurance program and federal extended benefit programs. Data for claimants who live outside of California, but collect benefits, and invalid addresses in California are not included in these numbers.

There are two types of exhausted claims by county. Claimants who have exhausted all available benefits for:

  • A specific program
  • All programs

Exhausted Claims by County (All Benefits Exhausted)

Exhausted claims refers to claimants who have exhausted all available benefits. The data provided is the number of Federal Funding for Extended Unemployment (FED-ED) and Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) Tier 4 claims that have been completely exhausted (no other benefits are available).

Based on the current legislation, claimants can have either a FED-ED or EUC Tier 4 claim as their last available benefit option. However, some claimants can return to a training extension even after exhausting their FED-ED claim.

The data in this report represents claims that were processed during the month. When a claim will be processed depends on the following:

  • When claimants mail their continued claim form
  • Time needed for the claim form receipt
  • Claim processing date
  • Eligibility issues that require a determination

Data for claimants who live outside of California, but collect benefits, and invalid addresses in California are not included in these numbers.

Exhausted Claims by County (All Programs)

The data provided in this report is the number of unemployment claims that have exhausted from all programs. It includes the regular unemployment program and federal extended benefit programs. This information includes the number of people who used all of their benefits in a specific program who may qualify for additional benefits.

The data in this report represents claims that were processed during the month. When a claim will be processed depends on the following:

  • When claimants mail their continued claim form
  • Time needed for the claim form receipt
  • Claim processing date
  • Eligibility issues that require a determination

Data for claimants who live outside of California, but collect benefits, and invalid addresses in California are not included in these numbers. Data may appear multiple times for the same person. For example, a claimant could have exhausted their regular unemployment claim in January and then exhausted their EUC Tier 1 claim in June.
